An Evening with the Father of the House

Friday, 3rd November 2017

PLEASE NOTE: This event is now FULL.

We have great pleasure in inviting members and supporters to our Association Dinner which is being held at the Durham Ox, Crayke on Friday 3rd November.

Our Guest Speaker is the Father of the House, Ken Clarke CH QC, Member of Parliament for Rushcliffe.

For most of you Ken will need no introduction – he studied law at Cambridge and was called to the bar in 1963 and took silk in 1980. He fought two seats in the 1960s before winning the Labour held seat of Rushcliffe in Nottinghamshire in 1970 at the age of 29 and has held it ever since. He has served in various Cabinets as Chancellor, Home Secretary, Justice Secretary, Education Secretary, Health Secretary, and Minister without Portfolio. He has been President of the Tory Reform Group since 1997. He has contested the Party Leadership three times. With 24 years of government service, Ken Clarke is considered to have the fourth longest ministerial career in modern British politics.

Ken has a penchant for cigars, jazz, real ale, all sports but particularly football, cricket and motor racing and of course suede Hush Puppies. He is pro-European and was the only Conservative MP to vote against the triggering of Article 50. And to top it all, he has the great honour of sitting next to our very own Kevin Hollinrake in the Chamber!
